Wallenius Wilhelmsen is looking for a talented Mechanic (Non-ASE Certificed).  


This position is responsible for the completion of assigned work within the time and quality limits established.  Total customer satisfaction with the work performed is the primary goal of this position, doing the right things, correctly, the first time.  The employee also recognizes their responsibility to perform all work in a safe and efficient manner and to adhere to all the safety rules regarding the use of PPE including the wearing of safety toed work shoes or any other safety equipment deemed necessary.  This position will also adhere to all DOT codes and regulations in the repair and maintenance of all equipment.

Job Description


  • General upkeep and maintenance of the tractor and trailer fleet in accordance with manufacturers, DOT, and Keen Transport safety standards.
  • Ability to safely operate and use hand and power tools and equipment to achieve job duties.
  • Must maintain an adequate tool inventory to complete these tasks
  • Able to meet both attendance and physical requirements of the job.


  1. Engage in the maintenance and repair of Keen company trailers in the following general categories:
  • Electrical repairs to lighting and marker systems
  • Maintenance and/or replacement of air or mechanical suspension
  • Maintenance and repair of hydraulic systems on trailers
  • Tire and/or axle repair as required
  • Repair or replacement of decks or other load supporting structures such as cross beams, braces, or add-on axles
  • Maintenance and/or replacement of braking and air system components.
  • Repair and maintenance of ABS systems.
  1. Engage in the maintenance and repair of company tractors
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance including oil changes, fluid level checks, and vehicle inspections,
  • Inspect defective equipment and diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
  • Read and comprehend diagrams, schematics, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s), manufacturer directions/instructions, and blueprints to complete assign/required work or repair orders.
  • Troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repair of Diesel and gas engines, drive trains, braking systems, steering mechanisms, and electrical systems.
  1. Use of basic hand and power tools
    4. Use of acetylene torch to cut various metals for fabrication or replacement purposes and use mig and stick welding techniques. 
    5. Use of measuring devices in both metric and English calibrations.
    6. Ability to hook and unhook from trailers using yard tractor for purposes of spotting equipment to work on or for testing.
    7. Complete repair orders for ongoing and completed jobs including hours worked and description of repairs.  This includes entries into the TNT software or completion of manual forms.
    8. Deck or un-deck trailers using a lift truck and set up or configure super-trailers for use or transport.

Job Requirements


  1. Reading and comprehending at a level sufficient to interpret MSDS and manufacturer's warnings and instructions for use and replacement of parts or operating instructions or to complete a repair order associated with repair.
    2. Proficiency in the use of basic hand tools including but not limited to hammers, saws, wrenches and pliers, torque wrenches, and air powered equipment.
    3.  Ability to satisfy the physical requirements listed 
  • Frequent lifts and carrying of up to 50 pounds for distances of 10 feet
  • Overhead lifting of 50 pounds
  • Climbing to and working at heights of up to 15 feet
  • Completing a full workday walking and/or standing
  • Perform work from a wide range of positions including: standing, sitting, bending , reaching, kneeling, reclining, from scaffolding or ladders
  • Sufficient hand and arm strength to un-package, install, or remove equipment parts.  May include the use of a 20 pound sledgehammer or other hand or power tools.
  • Pushing and pulling heavy material handling equipment such as floor cranes or jacks, and engaging in activities such as rolling tires or moving oak blocking.
  • Sufficient hand dexterity and strength to fasten, insert, and remove bolts, fasteners or parts of various sizes and weights from a few ounces to 50 pounds.
  • Operate and withstand the impact and vibration of electric and air-powered power tools.
  • Capable of work outside in all reasonable weather conditions
  • Conduct work responsibilities while exposed to dirt, dust, and fumes from the operation of construction equipment, cranes, forklifts, welding, painting, etc.
  1. Must pass post offer drug screen and background check as a condition of hire.
  2. If performing DOT inspections, a CDL may be required which would include a DOT physical.
  3. Maintain regular attendance as may be required for the position
  4. Demonstrates the ability to carry out specified work procedures and follows directions.
  5. Clear oral and written communication skills.
  6. Requires the ability to drive vehicles with manual or automatic transmissions.
  7. Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.


  • State inspection license is a plus.
  • Shift hours are subject to change
  • Hours other than daylight shift would pay a premium of $0.40 per hour.
