    RESPONSIBILITIES:  

    This position is responsible for the safe loading and unloading of all machines, parts, and accessories in and out of the Decatur, IL yard.  This individual is also responsible to insure that a unit shipping out of the yard matches loading paperwork, and shipping is configured to the customer and manufacturers specifications.  This position is responsible for storage & preservation procedures and insuring that all machines, attachments, and vendor pieces are stored according to our agreement with the customer and that all pieces in the yard are clearly marked in accordance with the manufacturer’s wishes.  This position will schedule the yard crew’s daily assignments and insure the quality of services provided in Decatur.

    Job Description

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

    1. Supervise unloading of incoming units, inspect for damage, and provide for the storage of all machines and accessories.
    2. Supervise the loading of units and/or pieces shipped from the Decatur yard and review loading paperwork to confirm proper configuration, piece count, and assembled specifications.
    3. Supervise personnel in the teardown or assembly of units to specified shipping configuration. This requires knowledge of machine weights and crane and forklift procedures.
    4. Sufficient reading and comprehension level to interpret all packing slips, loading instructions, and other documents used in the receiving and shipping process.
    5. Must meet the physical requirements as described below.

    JOB DUTIES:

     

    Warehouse duties:

    • Notify office personnel or appropriate customer service representatives of the arrival of units so that units can be configured as required for shipping.
    • Maintain yard layout to reflect customer requirements and storage and preservation guidelines:
      • all like models and pieces housed together
      • blocking under all non-propulsion pieces that come in contact with the ground
      • all weather sensitive items or pieces stored inside or tarped
    • Maintain the yard with respect to loading areas being flat and free of debris, discarded packing material or skids, etc. Maintain a safe work environment.  

    Shipping duties:

    • Assign work schedules and tasks and supervise the loading crew and teardown crews
    • Inspect all outbound shipments for proper piece count and serial number.
    • Inspect and insure that all loads are properly chained or otherwise secure.

    Supervisory duties:

    • Provide a daily schedule for all yard crew employees.
    • Maintain an adequate inventory of loading supplies including blocking, chain protectors, and chains and binders.
    • Assign and approve overtime among yard crew employees.
    • Monitor job performance and participate in the evaluation of loading yard crew members.
    • Work with the Facility Manager regarding employee discipline and scheduling of time off.
    • Train crew members in proper and safe lift truck and crane operation.
    • Monitor the maintenance and safety of all lift trucks and cranes.
    • Monitor and enforce all safety regulations and procedures- use of PPE, wearing of seat belts, etc.

    Required Skills and Abilities:

    • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in transportation or warehouse setting.
    • Minimum of 3 years experience operating or working on construction equipment (loading, unloading, assembly or disassembly)
    • Familiar with OSHA safety standards
    • Able to communicate with drivers and other co-workers in a professional and pleasant manner.
    • Ability to multi-task- manage several projects or jobs concurrently.

    Job Requirements

    PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Able to climb, stoop, crawl, bend, stretch, lift and carry blocking, and otherwise assume positions required to load, inspect, and/or secure loads to trailers or railcars.
    • Able to walk the yard area for purposes of inspection and identification of machinery and or pieces.
    • Must pass drug screen as a condition of hire.
    • Regular and punctual attendance as required by the facility manager.
    • Able and willing to work outdoors all year in all reasonable weather conditions.
    • Ability to satisfy the physical requirements of the job listed below:
      • Frequent lifts and carrying of up to 50 pounds for distances of 50 feet
      • Overhead lifting of 50 pounds
      • Climbing to and working at heights of up to 15 feet
      • Completing a full workday walking and/or standing
      • Perform work from a wide range of positions including: standing, sitting, bending , reaching, kneeling, reclining, from scaffolding or ladders
      • Sufficient hand and arm strength to un-package, install, or remove machine parts. May include the use of a 20 pound sledgehammer or other hand or power tools.
      • Pushing and pulling heavy material handling equipment such as floor cranes or jacks, and engaging in activities such as rolling tires or moving oak blocking.
      • Sufficient hand dexterity and strength to fasten, insert, and remove bolts and pins of various sizes and weights from a few ounces to 20 pounds and to operate and withstand the impact and vibration of electric and air-powered power tools.
      • Conduct work responsibilities while exposed to dirt, dust, and fumes from the operation of construction equipment, cranes, forklifts, etc.
