  • Overview

    As a Facility Process Improvement and Safety Specialist for Wallenius Wilhelmsen Solutions, you will play a key role by promoting continuous improvements at our facilities, ensuring efficiencies and standardization of work processes while also managing the safety program within the South Atlantic regional sites.

    Job Description

    • Develops efficient work processes to maximize productivity through continuous improvement methodologies.
    • Establishes direct labor standards through time study analysis.
    • Review and assess on-going KPI performance.
    • Reports on targets and identify actions required for shortcomings
    • Supports lean waste reduction workshop activity.
    • Validates facility cost saving analysis associated with labor efficiency improvement activity.
    • Participates in the quotation of new business by understanding customer. requirements, analyzing processes and determining direct labor needs.
    • Ensure ISO compliance through scheduled internal audits and follow up to correct deficiencies.
    • Act as Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator.
    • Supports the development of EHS (environmental health and safety) policies and programs and ensures compliance with federal and local OSHA regulations.
    • Initiates and organizes EHS training of employees and executives
    • Find and implement solutions to reduce utility cost, GHG emissions, landfill waste stream and reduce overall environmental footprint of facility.
    • Oversees installations, maintenance and disposal of hazardous substances.
    • Perform Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and recommend required PPE usage protocols.
    • Ensures all employees follow all personal safety precautions (hardhats, protective goggles, etc.)
    • Administer monthly safety training topics and update topics as needed.
    • Reports on the progress of projects with regards to understanding of safety/health risks, budget, resourcing and analysis.
    • Inspects premises and the work of employees to ensure compliance with company safety procedures.
    • Completes job hazard analyses for all major and high risk work processes.
    • Reduces risk of injury by applying ergonomic principles.
    • Records and investigates incidents to determine root causes.
    • Prepares reports and statistical information to management
    • Implements preventative measures to ensure unsafe processes are not repeated
    • Updates documentation throughout the facility as well as safety handbook #CB

    Job Requirements

    • A Bachelor’s Degree and 5-10 years relevant work experience. Knowledge of lean/continuous improvement and Environmental Health & Safety or related field a must.
    • Desired experience/skills with Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CAD) programs in order to review site drawings/documents and modify as required.
    • Certified trainer for Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) and Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER).
    • A proven track record with knowledge/experience in any of the following is a plus: TQM, JIT, Kaizen, 5S, Visual Factory Management, ISO, Six Sigma certification.
    • Excellent communication and listening skills
    • Proven analytical and presentation skills
    • Good oral and written communication skills.
    • Must have the ability to interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
    • Must be able to work different shifts and outside in adverse weather conditions to fully support the operations team.
    • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and data based applications.
    • Must be able to travel periodically.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license, a good driving record and be able to operate vehicles with both manual and automatic transmissions.#CB
