    POSITION SUMMARY
    Keen Transport, Inc. is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Trailer Mechanic within the Trailer Shop at our Aurora facility.  The primary responsibility of this position is to service and repair fleet trailers in all aspects, as needed. The person who fills this position may be asked to assist with some light tractor/tire work, respectively. The employee also recognizes their responsibility to adhere to all the safety rules related to this position and the usage of any other safety equipment deemed necessary.

    Job Description

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • General upkeep and maintenance of the tractor and trailer fleet in accordance with manufacturers, DOT, and Keen Transport safety standards.
    • Engage in the maintenance and repair of Keen company trailers in the following general categories:
      • Electrical repairs to lighting and marker systems
      • Maintenance and/or replacement of air or mechanical suspension
      • Maintenance and repair of hydraulic systems on trailers
      • Repair/replacement of decks and load supporting structures - cross beams, braces, add-on axles
      • Maintenance and/or replacement of braking and air system components.
      • Repair and maintenance of ABS systems.
    • Engage in the maintenance and repair of company tractors:
      • Perform preventive maintenance, oil changes, fluid level checks, and vehicle inspections,
      • Inspect defective equipment and diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
      • Read and comprehend diagrams, schematics, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS's), manufacturer instructions, and blueprints to complete assign/required work or repair orders.
      • Troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repair of Diesel and gas engines, drive trains, braking systems, steering mechanisms, and electrical systems.
    • Use of acetylene torch to cut metals for fabrication or replacement. Use mig and stick welding techniques.
    • Use of measuring devices in both metric and English calibrations.
    • Ability to hook/unhook from trailers using yard tractor for purposes of spotting, maintenance or testing
    • Complete repair orders for ongoing and completed jobs including hours worked and description of repairs. This includes entries into the TNT software or completion of manual forms.
    • Use of basic hand and power tools

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Must supply own basic shop tools
    • Ability to read and comprehend at a sufficient level to interpret MSDS and manufacturer's warnings and instructions for use and replacement of parts or to complete a work order associated with repair.
    • Knowledge with observing and listening to operating equipment to determine malfunctions.
    • Proficiency in the use of basic hand tools including but not limited to hammers, saws, wrenches and pliers, torque wrenches, and air powered equipment.
    • Knowledge of mechanical devices, and tools, including designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
    • Current DOT Physical and CDL required in order to perform State Inspections.
    • Completing a full workday walking and/or standing
    • Maintain regular attendance as may be required for the position.
    • Must pass post-offer drug screen as a condition of hire.
